Pause for a moment.
Imagine opening your workforce dashboard in 2027.
You don’t just see employees.
You see AI Agents.
Some writing code.
Some recruiting talent.
Some negotiating with suppliers.
Some preparing board reports.
Some running customer support—24×7.
By 2027, your workforce may not consist only of employees.
It may include hundreds—or thousands—of AI Agents working alongside humans.
Think about that for a moment.
You’ll know:
- Your headcount.
- Your attrition.
- Your engagement scores.
But…
Will you know your AI-to-Human ratio?
Which decisions should remain exclusively human?
Which roles should become AI-first?
How do you measure the productivity of a Human + AI team?
How do you redesign performance management when one “employee” works 24Ă—7 and another needs wellbeing, purpose, and growth?
These aren’t technology questions.
They’re leadership questions.
If I were building a CHRO roadmap for 2027, it would look like this:
2026: Become AI Fluent
Understand LLMs, AI Agents, automation, and where they create or destroy value.
2027: Become a Workforce Architect
Redesign jobs, not just job descriptions.
Measure work, not attendance.
Build Human-AI collaboration models.
2028: Become a Capability Investor
Stop asking “What skills do we need?”
Start asking “What capabilities compound over time?”
Critical thinking.
Systems thinking.
Negotiation.
Influence.
Creativity.
Ethical judgement.
These are appreciating assets.
Everything else risks becoming a commodity.
I don’t believe AI will replace HR.
I believe HR is about to inherit the most complex management problem in modern business history.
For the first time, CHROs won’t just manage talent.
They’ll manage Humans, AI Agents, Robotics, and the interaction between them.
Perhaps it’s time we stop talking about Human Resources…
…and start talking about Workforce Intelligence.
That, in my opinion, is the real job description of the CHRO of 2027.
